Committee Member: Richard Dean
I joined the LPC, initially as a co-optee, in 1980 and I have been Chairman since 1996. I am MD and Superintendent of Dean & Smedley Ltd, our family run business based in Burton-on-Trent. We have ten pharmacies across South Staffs, Derbyshire and Leicestershire PCTs. The business was founded by my grandfather in 1927 and I have a pharmacist daughter who will be joining the business shortly.
Although I spend the majority of my time in the office I can still be found behind the counter from time to time! I was a Health Authority Non-exec director for a number of years, am on the management committee of the Association of Independent Multiple pharmacies and a member of the PIPcode panel at the NPA and the National ETP Pharmacy User Group.
My “specialised subject” is probably Clinical Governance! When not at work my main interests are music – I play the flute, sing with the local Musical Theatre company and in the church choir – and travel, now that our children are off our hands, together with good food!
Committee Member: Chris Smith
I qualified at Aston in 1973. Seventeen years with Boots the Chemists (as it was then). Then worked as a locum. Now employed by Manor Pharmacy, also as a session pharmacist by South staffs PCT.
Qualified as a supplementary prescriber 2005 and as an independent prescriber in 2007. First served on an LPC in Barnsley in 1976 and on the F.P.C.(Family practioner committee for you youngsters). Aims, “To push the profession into areas that fully utilize our skills and abilities”. Currently working on protocols for pharmacist independent prescribing in community pharmacy.
Other historical activities, Vice chairman Stratford on Avon chamber of trade, chairman Stratford crime prevention panel. Hobbies, my body finally told me to stop playing rugby in 2002. Still play five a side football and squash. (Don’t tell my wife!)
Committee Member: Andrew Morrison
I was formally a PEC pharmacist on South Western Staffordshire PCT from 2002 until the reorganisation of the PCT in 2006.I completed the Keele University Diploma in Community Pharmacy in 2004 and finished my MSc. at Keele in 2006 having investigated the reasons why patients purchased Zocor Heart-Pro.
My hobbies include squash and computers and I’m a passionate Rugby Union fan, supporting Northampton Saints RFC.
